LANDSCAPING OF THE "WELCOME TO DUTTON/DUNWICH" SIGNS

We're Working to Improve our Community! The Chamber of Commerce and The Municipality of Dutton/Dunwich have been working together to enhance the three welcome signs in the community. The first one, which was located at the north end of town near the 401 has been relocated to the southeast corner of the OPP property and has been given a roof. The location has been beautified with a large raised bed with stone wall, rocks, evergreen shrubs and flowering bushes. Keep your eye open when you drive down Currie Road! The next phase of the project was to beautify the two signs on #3 highway (Talbot Line). Our wish is also to have solar lighting installed on the signs. Stay tuned!!
Main Street Beautification Project & Tree Planting
In 2006, five new linden trees were planted on Main Street. The Chamber responded by sponsoring one tree for $1000. This contribution, in addition to our past donations for garbage receptacles and benches, demonstrates our continued intention to ensure our downtown is alive and remains a vital part of our entire community.
Paint for Main Street Businesses
The Municipality generously continues to support Main Street businesses by offering to buy the paint to paint our buildings in accordance with the
downtown colour scheme.
Banners for Main Street
The Canada Day Banners on Main Street were purchased and donated to the Municipality by the Chamber.
Grand Opening Ribbon CuttingsEach new business opening in Dutton/Dunwich is welcomed by members of the Executive, and receives free membership in the Chamber for that calendar year. If asked, the Chamber will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for their Grand Opening.
Annual bursary for WESS business student since 1979Each year, at West Elgin Secondary School Commencement, the Chamber presents a $200 cash award to the top business student.
Annual purchase of Christmas Decorations for Main StreetIn 2006, the Chamber voted to take the money it would otherwise spend on individual awards for Christmas decorating every year, and spend it on decorations for Main Street.
Donations to the Santa Claus Parade
Over the years, the Chamber has donated to the Wallacetown Optimist Club to help defray the cost of candy for the parade.

"a Big Hearted Welcome" ProgramWe all know that Dutton Dunwich is a great place to live and we want to convince the newcomers! Currently, new families moving into the community receive a brand new blue recycling box loaded with information and gifts.
The info package contains an introduction and welcome letter from our Mayor, Bonnie Vowel, info on Dutton Dunwich and various brochures on local organizations and services; everything they need to know about our community.
These new residents are also lucky to receive gifts from the local retailers and businesses. This is a great way to promote your business, make a good first impression and maybe clear out some slow moving inventory.
This program is a success and we have had an overwhelming response to the idea. So overwhelming in fact, that the basket we started with soon became too small for all the welcome gifts. The Municipality needed to deliver blue boxes to new residents; so what better way to help each other! The Municipality gives us the new blue boxes and we fill them with our items and deliver them personally to our new neighbours! How's that for a big-hearted welcome?
If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact anyone on the executive. Participation is free for all paid up chamber members. Non-members may participate for a $20.00 annual fee.
